2020 is indeed a challenging and confusing year. We are already passed the half way mark, Are we finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel? now that the movement control order(MCO) getting more relaxed, I personally believe so. Even though the situation is getting better, We must however always stay vigilant about personal health and safety. We need to also play our part to be active in adhering to various SOPs prepared by the government and practice social distancing in public areas.
Our Senior Minister(Security), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that beginning of July 1st, 2020 Weddings and Events are allowed. It is a piece of great news for me, and my entire Wedding industry colleagues. Now we need to operate safely and reliably on the approved SOP for our clients, teams and partners.
Now What do we know so far? in terms of type of running-events we can safely say that any Wedding related events are now possible;
- Wedding Receptions
- Engagement Parties
- Tea Ceremonies
Organizing a Wedding events at these times involve some additional steps which is part of the safety requirement for you and your guests. It is not much of a hassle if we take our time and planned in advanced and follow the shared Standard of Operating procedures(SOP).
- 250(150 in SABAH) PEOPLE MAXIMUM CAPACITY IN WEDDING EVENTS:
Event Planner must register their guest and reminding them to practice social distancing. A maximum of 250(150 in SABAH) guests or fewer depending of the size of the venue are allowed to attend.
- 3 TO 5 HOURS
“We have decided to put a limit to how long these events can be held, which is between three and five hours. We believe the time given is sufficient to host events.” – as announced by the minister recently. These allocated timing is sufficient even before the pandemic, so it's still within the norm. It is advisable to consult with your planner what will be the most efficient timing required to fit all your agendas.
- YOU WILL BE SERVED
Delicious and mouth watering food, that’s a pre-requisite of wedding events. Guests will be served at the table by venue waiters, just like before so nothing change here. As for Buffet, food must be served by venue waiters only. Consider having more than one buffet counter to speed up the process and make the crowd-flow smoother.
- MAKE SURE YOU REGISTER AND CLEARED BEFORE ENTERING THE VENUE
All personnel at wedding events venue will need to have their temperature checked before entering. Registration will be conducted via MySejahtera app or recorded manually. Personnel with body temperature of over 37.5 degrees Celsius and/or displaying symptoms may be prevented from entering. Do adhere to the requirement and for planner, it’ll be good to include this in your pre-event communication to guests, to ensure they are aware and come prepared, plus to manage the queue on the event day,
- KEEP YOUR MASK ON
“Those with symptoms such as cough and flu are advised not to attend social gatherings and it is best if everyone present have a mask on.” – reminded by the minister recently. Wearing a mask is definitely the new normal when we’re out and about from our residence. We are being responsible to ourselves and to others by wearing a mask at social gatherings such as wedding events. This action will help to prevent one from catching on or spreading the virus further; especially for those who are asymptomatic.
We all know that Weddings will not be the same again, at least for now. Your celebration will look and feel different with all new restrictions but stay optimistic and look at the bright side - you'll get that small, meaningful and intimate wedding and reception that so many couples wish they could have had.
Me on the other hand, can't wait for the meetup sessions to talk about the preparations and most of all to catch up after such a long break. I'm ready and eager to pick up the camera again to carry on the many wedding photo/video journey that has been put-off/rescheduled. We are now embarking on a new normal, new processes that we have never seen/experienced before.
