Maid of Honor / Bridesmaid

Been to so many wedding, and I found that most of the Maid of Honor or Bridesmaid don't really understand what is their duty. So this post is about Maid of Honor's duties.

Traditionally the Maid of Honor (MOH) is the Bride's right hand woman. MOH have one of the most important roles in making sure the bride's and groom's wedding is a success. Many times the groom will not help out as much as the bride would like which is why MOH role is so important.

The role of MOH will range from helping the bride choose bridesmaid dresses to making a speech at the ceremony.

Additional responsibilities of MOH may include....

*Help the bride shop for her wedding dress.

* Visit reception sites with the bride as a "second pair of eyes"

* Help the bride choose the wedding flowers and reception decoration.

* Help make wedding guest favors.

* Assist the Bride with any errands.

* Plan the bridal shower.

* Keep the Bride on schedule and calm.

* Help the bride get dressed. During dinner reception help the bride to change to her evening gown and takes charge of wedding gown after the wedding day.

* Ensure all the bridesmaids are ready (hair and makeup)and arrive at the ceremony on time.

* Adjust the bride's veil and train before she walks down the aisle.

* Hold the bride's bouquet during the wedding ceremony.

* Assist with the group photo and wedding photos.

* Too often, the duty of "straightening/fluffing" the bride's dress is overlooked. If the bride is staying on a level, straight path, then this can be done before her descent down the aisle. however,if she is turning,or stepping up steps and/or turning to reach her destination, then the MOH should first adjust her train before accepting the bouquet to hold. This is most easliy done by holding the train at the points about (2) feet apart, and gently"shaking" the train (as if shaking a rug) one good time, and it will fall beautifully in place.

* Help the bride in the washroom.

* Visit the ceremony/ reception room (if possible) to make sure there are no problems or issues. It is much better to be proactive.

* MOH will dance with the Best Man during the bridal party dance.

Last, but not least, provide moral support and be a great listener throughout the process since it is a very wonderful and"positively"stressful time for the bride.
