My Nikon and Canon Experience

I've got a Question from Yusz via Facebook, "Are u a Nikonian since day 1? and why not Canon?" I guess this is the common Nikon Vs Canon Vs Sony Vs others question. 5 Years ago I bought My First Camera, which is a point-and-shoot Lumix FX2 with Leica Lens, Thanx Jack for the awesome Recommendation. For me personally I feel Cameras are the same, they are just a tool and you need to know how to control the tool instead of the tool controling you. However I do have an experience which involve both Canon and Nikon DSLR, It's nothing technical but I think it's a good story to share. If any of you readers are Camera Vendors I hope you gain something after reading my story.

When I decided to be a Professional Photographer, I was so eager to learn about photography. Aperture, Shutter Speed, White Balance, ISO, SLR, EOS and others was so new to me. But first, I must get myself a DSLR hoping to jump and bang the walls then get up and do it again. To be honest I was very into Canon at first, One Day I was heading to the mall(Center Point Sabah) and approach one of the Camera Vendor(Majority Canon Products) . When I arrive, I notice all the Sales Reps were very busy knowing it's a weekend, I decided to stand there waiting for my turn as I have list of technical questions to ask, and hoping one of them could help me. I remembered I was with my casual outfit, T-Shirt, Short Jeans and a Slipper, that's who I am before and that's who I am today. Anyway,

As I was standing there for 10 minutes, still waiting and hoping anyone could just approach me, understand the situation is still very busy and I continue waiting. 15 minutes passed, They're still busy and I was thinking WOW, It must be good to be a Vendor!. 30 minutes passed, After a lengthy discussion, YAY! one of the Rep is finally Free, I quickly stand in front of him. To my Surprise not only he didn't say anything to me, but he serves one of the customer which came after me. I was Stunned! Is it because the way I dress? to my disappointment after wasting half an hour of my curiosity time I decided to Walk Away.

I move up to another level in the same mall to approach another vendor(majority Nikon Product), with less expectation after what I experience from the previous Vendor. To my amazement, this guy was so passionate and very good at people skill, Thank God! Not only I learned a lot that day, I also bought my first DSLR(Nikon D60). And thanx to him, they became my loyal Vendor and a Good Friend Ever Since. Don't Judge a Book by it's cover I guess. I heard similar stories like this a couple of times from other people, but I guess it's better to share from my experience. Apologize If any of you thought that this is about Canon Vs Nikon Technical blog entry. Well that's my story of Nikon and Canon.

I got the same treatment from the same vendor the first time I was there.. tdk kena layan at all! The 2nd time, WC and I approached somebody who WC knew, and our conversation turned to Canon VS Sony. And OMG I couldn't believe how that person bad mouthed Sony so BAD! Yea, like a person can AUTOMATICALLY get an awesome pic just by using Canon! Pffftt!

I was there because I needed to get another camera bag.. I asked the salesperson how much the bag cost there (and got a layan/tak mau layan attitude from them instead, upon learning that I was using a Sony), and so I purposely went to another camera shop a(while leaving WC at the shop) and bought the bag there, and returned to the shop with my new bag in hand and said out loud, "The bag sold there is much cheaper than here" Hah! Baru tau!

Fiona> You're lucky to have a friendly rep, Imagine If I get a Friendly rep in the first place..Tadaa! I'm a Canon. *George Talking to his Nikon Camera> I Still love you

JACQ>I Love it!, Why Didn't I think of that?. Haha.. Imagine bah, Go back to the Vendor while holding my Nikon Camera, and say " Tu-lah, dulu tia mau jual kasi sia, ko-to" haha..I just hate someone with layan tidak mau layan attitude. Come on be professional. Furthermore you shouldn't bad mouth your competitor, you never know what other people might be using. *sigh*
